McAfee VirusScan Wireless 1.0
It's an unfortunate fact of life for those of us who use PCs to surf the Net, download software, and more--viruses are out there. With new viruses appearing on a daily basis, data is under constant attack, and it's essential to get some protection. McAfee has a history of producing top antivirus products. With VirusScan Wireless, the company has created the first PDA virus-scan product, which secures handheld devices running Palm, CE, and Epoc platforms. The software installs easily on a Windows PC, and the device component of the software installs on the PDA after you synch the handheld with the PC. Once the software is installed, choose your scanning options (this can be done from either the handheld or the PC). You can: - Scan applications
- Scan application data
- Scan modified records only
- Scan known file types only
- Scan known executable code types only
- Scan flash memory
You can also choose whether to scan at the start of each hotsync, at the end of each hotsync, or both. The device-side component of the package (e.g., the VirusScan icon on a Palm) can easily be removed. If a virus is found, the antivirus alert will notify you. While VirusScan is a good first step towards protecting a handheld from virus threats, it doesn't replace having an antivirus application (such as McAfee VirusScan Deluxe) installed on your PC as well. --Kathleen Keefe

Real User Review: Name: Melissa L. Jurisch Location: Portland, OR Review Summary : Terrible customer service Review : This was a complete waste of my money. I have been unable to update the software since install. I continue to get that I am not registered. When I contacted McAfee I get "we are mailing you instructions on correcting this".. Well it's been a week and I've sent 2 emails, 1 live chat and still no emails back. Guess they want me to spend another $20 on a annual subscription.
Name: Michael E. Barr Location: Woodinville, WA United States Review Summary : Useless Software Review : This software simply preys on handheld user's ignorance. There are no true PalmOS viruses out there. Save your money on this product and instead buy some form of backup solution. A Backup Module if you have a visor, Memory backup SD card if you have a more recent Palm device, or a Northstar backup module if you have an older Palm III series device. This software is completely useless. Get a good backup solution and you will be much safer than if you just had this software loaded on your handheld.
Name: Stanward S. M. Oshiro Location: Keaau, Hawaii USA Review Summary : Personal protection for your PDA, be it a Palm or Windows CE Review : For an affordable price, you can get the maximum protection against viruses that were created to damage your PDA handheld computer. I own a Handspring Visor armed with the Palm OS and now I can be rest-assured that there will be no viruses that can cause my PDA to go haywire. At a mere [price], I believe it would be very much worth the price in comparison to losing all of your data on your handheld. There is a potential threat from viruses on PDA systems. If you really depend on your PDA for the information storage, etc. this software is for you. There are adjustable settings that you can change, such as when the software will scan for viruses(before hotsync and/or after hotsync), and what type of data to scan for viruses. McAfee has been making anti virus software for a very long time, so the company itself is reputable. And I can't find an anti virus software from Norton(Symantec) made for the PDAs.
