Real User Review: Name: A. Srikanth Location: Review Summary : Good product but can become heavy with all options installed Review : I have used AVG for several years after I dumped Norton. Norton got bloated with features and I realized that norton required most of the cpu most of the time.
1. AVG is a great anti-virus. Dont know much else about the rest of the products bundled into Internet Security
2. Price of the 3 user/2 year was the lowest on amazon and only marginally more than the plain anti-virus
3. AVG had always struggled with 2 things even when their antivirus was nimble and fast - terrible installer and recovery and once scanning started it took for ever to stop it. Both of these seem to have taken a big step in this version of Internet Security
4. I installed Internet Security (the full package) but then felt it was too bloated compared to the vanilla antivirus in terms of CPU and memory. So I uninstalled it and then chose the CUSTOM INSTALL and then installed only the anti-virus, root kit scanner and skipped the ANTI SPAM and FIREWALL. Most ISPs provide SPAM control anyway and if you dont have a teenager at home surfing and clicking on evertthing they see and have a hardware firewall built into your router, you may be ok.
5. Somebody didnt test the Installer (see #3 above). I chose the option to skip the toolbar but AVG installed it anyways.I hate third party toolbars as they never work right with Microsoft products (Microsoft's fault not the third party vendors') and sure enough, the Office products hang on loading of the AVG toolbar.
I am very happy with the antivirus install in Internet Security 9.0 and the scans are much faster in the version and a user is able to better gain control on the scan in this version.
All in all good improvements to the antivirus product but I took away one star for the continued and inadequate attention paid by AVG to the installer.
Name: Tbommy Location: Flat Lands of Kansas Review Summary : It just works Review : Fast and easy install on XP SP2. Internet tests by independent testing sites show my computer to be invisible on the Web. Three computer licenses for less than $50 AND two years full internet security protection and upgrades for all three machines included in the price. This AGV deal stomps the dirt out of its main competitors.
Is it perfect? Of course not - all anti-anythings are re-active systems to known threats at best. But I feel safer surfing the web with the protections of this internet security especially since cost less than the other guys(and I have tried the yellow box guys too). Why some internet security companies think we should premium price to feel "safe" exploring cyberspace just boggles my mind.
Name: Sweetsong Location: USA Review Summary : Freezes Up With Firefox Review : Okay, I tried the free version at work and it was great. Decided to buy the 2 year, 3 user subscription for home...MISTAKE. Firefox will only open after several tries and is very slow. Tried to get help from the AVG website, but no keyword seems to fit my problem. Internet Explorer is somewhat better, but the browsers still drag. Also, I don't see that it's blocking pop-ups at all, again I checked their webpage, but "pop-up" isn't in their vocabulary.
I guess it's protecting alright, but since I've only had it installed for two days it is difficult to tell. Sorry I wasted my money. It was a good idea though, to not have to buy the internet security every year.
ETA: AVG works now, still slightly slow, but seems to be MUCH better. The issue was a few things that needed to be tweaked in Firefox. Can't really change the stars yet. Going to give it a few days.
